Origins of the Name

Whitehouse was formerly known as Kent Avenue, however, somewhere around the
mid 50’s, it is said that the name Whitehouse was adopted, as a direct result of a
white mansion that was situated on the old Reynolds Beach Property, which was at
that point in time, a famous landmark on the Kent Avenue strip.

Geography and Population

The community has a population of approximately 350 residents, with about another 200 spread across the Diaspora, ranging from countries such as the United States, Canada
and England. Whitehouse is located behind the Sangster International Airport, along
the old Kent Avenue Road in Montego Bay. It is ideally perched along the western tip
of the old Bay Roc Hotel (now Sandals Montego Bay), and the northern end of Tropical
Beach (formerly Reynolds Beach).

This beautiful gem of a community is easily the most peaceful and tranquil community
in the entire country, and boast an enviable record of being almost entirely crime free.

Livelihood of Community

Whitehouse is mainly a fishing village, dating back to the mid 20’s. Almost 70% of the community makes a living from the noble profession.
