Milton Russell (Bas as he is affectionately
known), is the Chairman of Friends of Whitehouse
Montego Bay. He is one of the founding members
of this body.
Milton was born in Whitehouse, and up until the
point of his migration, was the President and
Team Manager of the Seaview Youth Club.
In addition to being at the helm
of Seaview since 1990, he has held several
leadership positions in almost all areas of
professional, civic, community, and the
political field. He is a past Treasurer of both
the St. James Football Association and the PNP
North West St. James Constituency, plus the
former Councilor of the Montego Bay West
Division, in the St. James Parish Council. He is
also a past member of the Montego Bay Boys &
Girls Club, and the Montego Bay YMCA.
An Accountant by profession,
Milton is presently employed as an Accounting
Supervisor at ARAMARK Corporation, (a Fortune
500 company in Philadelphia, PA), which is a
position that he has held with distinction since
being there. He has also held several other
senior management positions in Jamaica, starting
from being an Assistant Controller at Sandals
Resorts, to being the Financial Controller at
Tropical Tours, The Western Mirror and Cornwall
Asphalt.
Milton is the brainchild, and
chief architect of the Pride Park Sports
Facility in Whitehouse, which is a project that
includes contributions from his own personal
resources. Under his guidance, the community
playing field has seen a major transformation,
moving from being a scrimmage field; to what is
now a multi-purpose sports and entertainment
facility, which is aptly named Pride Park.
This facility has evoked a great
sense of pride and joy for the entire community,
as they are now able to host competitive home
games in the St. James Division One Football
Competition.
He has continuously articulated a
vision of seeing Whitehouse develop into a
community where kids can have access to a modern
Homework Center, fully staffed and equipped with
proper learning tools, and Internet access.
Mr. Russell possesses an active
social conscience, and is a community oriented
person at heart. He has always strongly believed
in leveraging his position as a leader, to
assist with the developmental needs of the
community, whilst at the same time, highlight
the positives of this quaint little seaside
village.
As Councilor of the community
(between 2003 to 2007), through his rational and
pragmatic approach, he was single-handedly
responsible for bringing Cable Television
service to the community of Whitehouse. During
his tenure, he also ensured the paving of the
old road leading to the community Fishing Beach,
provided a proper garbage incinerator (skip) for
the community, and erected lights on the fishing
beach.
The implementation of this
lighting facility has made the fishing beach
more safe and secure, plus provides an avenue
for the fishermen to be able to work and make
fish traps at nights.
Milton is an avid Football fan,
and is a life long, die-hard supporter of
Manchester United. |
