CHRONOLOGY
OF MAJOR EVENTS IN WHITEHOUSE.
1940’s
- In order to facilitate the
expansion of the Airport runway, residents
were
relocated from the Airport, to where they now reside
in the community.
1951

Charley hits Jamaica – Whitehouse is severely
damaged.

International Airport, killing
46 passengers.

Jamaica.
- Tom “Baya” Gibbs blows
the Conch Shell at Carifesta, held at Jarrett Park.
This
event is televised on Television live, to the entire
World.
1977
- Seaview Youth Club is
formed. The idea for the club came about
because
most members of the Fogo United squad of the day,
were in fact from
Whitehouse, and it was decided that it would be a
better idea to have a team
from the community of Whitehouse.
1979
- The Conch Shell Magazine is
published by Seaview Youth Club. This magazine
highlighted various community, parish and national
activities plus the success
of the club and it’s members.
1980
- On July 31st, Hurricane
Allen hits Jamaica – Whitehouse is severely
damaged,
and parts of the community flooded. Rylan
Cuville’s house is taken by the rising
tides out to the section called “the bar.” Residents are forced to
evacuate the community, and are housed at both
Cornwall College, and Trinity Church.
1982
- On June 13th,
the first Colour TV is brought to the community by
Neville “Foey”
Moore, and the entire community gets to see World
Cup ’82 from Spain, in
live and living colour. Italy won this World Cup
courtesy of Paoli Rossi.
1985
- Seaview FC visits Venezuela
and plays a number of matches in that Country.
1986
- Katcha Russell and Sallock
Maxwell are lost at sea and feared dead. The anguish
lasted for over a week, until word came that their
boat had drifted to Cuba, and they were safe and in
good health.
1987
- Chappu and Red Mark sparred
in a thriller of a Boxing Match across from
Dragon
Lounge. The fight was then billed as “The Fight of
Whitehouse” but the result was deemed a draw, with
the fight ending after only three (3) rounds, as
both fighters complained bitterly about each
others’ tactics, and Chappu refusing to re-enter
the
ring for round four.
1988
- On September 12th,
Hurricane Gilbert hits Jamaica – Whitehouse sees
devastation
like never before, with most residents losing the
roof of their homes. For younger residents, this was their first
real experience of a major hurricane, and as a
result, expressed great enthusiasm before the storm.
Some residents are temporarily
relocated to Flanker’s All-Age School.
Unfortunately, looters took advantage of
this, and stole various items from some homes.
2001
- The Community Football
field (previously known as “Maria”), sees a
major upgrade
work, resulting in Seaview being able to play home
games in the St. James
Division One Competition. Previously, only scrimmage
could have been played on this field.
- Once thought to be a
difficult task due to the fact that there are no
light poles at both ends of the community, Cable
TV access is introduced to the community, by
Milton Russell.
2002
- A major expansion of the
Club’s facility takes place, with the construction
of the Platform and Entertainment Center, and the
facility renamed Pride Park.
- The Community Football
field is completely fenced.
- Lights are installed at the
Football Field, allowing the team to train at
nights.
2003
- Tuesday, April 2nd,
the community mounted a mass demonstration by
the
round-a-bout, after being threatened with an
eviction notice from the Football Field.
- On June 19th,
Milton Russell is elected Councillor, after winning
a seat in the Local Government elections. He is the
only of six (6) PNP candidates to win a seat, thanks
to the residents of Whitehouse, both JLP and PNP,
who all voted overwhelmingly for him.
- Track pass is completely
resurfaced with asphalt, all the way from the
culvert to site,
on the Fishing Beach, and the road renamed Seaview
blvd.
2004
- In September, Hurricane
Ivan hits Jamaica – Whitehouse escapes major
damage.
- Saturday, September 4th,
tragedy hits Whitehouse, and indeed the entire
Jamaica, with the death of Scava, Saggle, Twinny
Bug, Marlo and Buggu Ruggu, all in a motor vehicle
accident, coming from a Jamaica Football match in
Kingston. The vehicle crashed on Queens Highway in
St. Ann.
2005
- Lights are installed on the
Fishing Beach, allowing Fishermen the opportunity to
make fish pots at nights, whilst at the same time,
providing a safe environment for residents of the
community.

hits Jamaica – again, Whitehouse escapes major
damage.
