                                        Community Liason

Jeffery Samuels, a resident of Whitehouse in Montego Bay, was born in that sleepy, tranquil Fishing Village. He attended both the Flanker’s All-Age School, and later, Rusea’s High School in Hanover, where he was a pivotal member of the schools football team, winning the DaCosta Cup, Nutriment Shield and Ben Francis Trophy in 1987.

After leaving high school, he went on to representing his community football team - Seaview Youth Club, and again won major sporting honors, including the St. James FA Hart Shield Division One Football Competition in 1995.

A devout Christian from an early age, he attends the First Church of the Open Bible in Montego Bay, where he is an active member, along with his lovely wife Marsha, and six year old son Isaac. In addition to creating his own masterpieces of artwork, he also works as a Customer Service Representative at Air Jamaica.

Growing up in the picturesque backdrop of the seaside village of Whitehouse, Montego Bay, Jeffery developed his interest for art at a very tender age. He began drawing cartoon characters, pictures of his surroundings and famous individuals, and by the age of fourteen, he was already selling surf shots to his friends at a dollar a piece. Today, his paintings adorn the walls of many notable private collections, including that of Jamaica’s winningest Prime Minister, the Hon. Percival Noel James (P.J) Patterson.

A self-taught artist in the true Folk tradition, he paints what he knows and loves best: country scenes with children and animals frolicking, people working, scaling fish etc., surrounded by sea, stone walls, houses, covered bridges, hills, and resplendent coast lines. Paying meticulous attention to line, form, detail and color, his paintings exude a sense of joy and represents cherished memories of his life growing up in a seaside village.

Bolstered in an extensive career in the Customer Service Industry, he looks forward to returning home daily to his first and greatest love of painting, which gives him the chance to intertwine his love of nature, abstraction and design in each of his atmospheric pieces.

Jeffery paints from focused perspectives of the natural world, filtered and infused with memory and nostalgia. His palettes emerge directly from his intimate observations of his immediate surrounding, plus life’s minute details. He is inspired by a number of things, including his faith in his religion, the lovely Whitehouse Seacoast, the character of the coastline, the weather, music and his family. Jeffery’s stunning use of color creates subtle layers of imagery, which are unique to each subject.

His textured, moody and poetic pieces incorporate crystallized collage fragments to provoke each individual’s own thoughts, feelings, memories and imagination. Jeffery’s believes his job is to capture moments of time where people can visually feel apart of life’s extremes.
